The best results are obtained when these 3 conditions are met:

  1. The protruding fat is localized in area such as the chin, stomach, saddlebags, inner part of the thigh, the knees…
  2. Skin quality is good. Elasticity is good and no stretch-marks are present.
  3. The weight is within the usual and normal ranges.

A healthy lifestyle is essential to the success of a liposuction. The effects of the surgery will be sustained by having a balanced diet and a doing regular exercises.

In men, it is now possible to considerably improve the appearance of the abdomen by reshaping the abdominals. This is known as abdominal etching and consists in sculpting the abdominals. This technique emphasizes the contour of the vertical abdominal muscles to obtain a muscular effect often desired by men.

This abdominal etching technique can only be used for men who are not overweight, with little excess fat and no excess skin. Generally speaking in men, liposuction consists more in resculpting the silhouette and the muscles.

Lipofilling can be used to recreate volume and enhance the silhouette. The fat that has been suctioned out can be centrifuged, and then purified, in order to be injected so as to create volume in areas such as in the pectoral muscles, buttocks, calves, and others.

The injected fat will react to weight fluctuations. Consequently, in the case of weight loss or gain, the treated areas will lose or gain volume like the rest of the body.

Unless the treated area is specifically localized, liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts between 1 and 3 hours. The patient can leave the hospital on the same day of the surgery or on the following day, if necessary.

Skin incisions are very small, but they need to be protected from the sun during the first year using sunscreen. That is true for all scar tissue.

The compression garment prescribed before the surgery is placed on the patient in the operating room. The garment should be worn day and night for the first month following surgery. The first shower is permitted the day after the surgery, and there are no sutures to remove. Exercise should be avoided during the first month following the surgery. Lymphatic drainage sessions are required to help reduce any edema that may occur.

It takes approximately six months to see and appreciate the results of the surgery.
